The only accurate sentence is the one where the author admits the opposite of what they otherwise argue: “OK, if you want to blame someone for the emphasis on monetary policy and the de-emphasis on fiscal policy, then Milton Friedman is guilty as charged.” Exactly. This one sentence is correct and the rest of the essay is a complete waste of words. Two big things are left out. The article doesn’t mention the 0% lower bound on interest rates, or the way debt changes the models. If you don’t have the time to write an essay long enough to include those two things, then you shouldn’t waste the time writing such an essay at all.
