How environmentally friendly is concrete? I've heard cement is responsible for 5% to 8% of CO2 emissions globally.
- shiftpgdn 4y agoFun fact: Txdot, who spends 97% of their entire massive budget on expanding freeways, is responsible for .5% of all global carbon emissions.
- xxxtentachyon 4y agoThat’s astounding. Are there similar figures available for other recent huge builders (e.g. China, both road infrastructure and dams etc)
- throwawaymaths 4y agoMostly public works projects, iirc. Housing is not a big contributor.
- jlkuester7 4y agoYeah, this was my question as well. Obviously wood has its downsides as a building material, but it seems to have some obvious advantages when it comes to renewability and sustainability.
