  Consider also they didn't just start doing all this yesterday. Lots of policy/legal cases/social conclusions based on their performance is suspect.

  ShotSpotter is a private company that is 100% dependent on police for their business. It's a relationship that is bound to end up corrupt. Whenever ShotSpotter makes the police look bad, they'll end the contract.

    The worst part about this is that there are plenty of other companies that contract with the police with similar incentives and collusion.
