The first CRISPR gene-editing drug is coming soon
- inglor_cz 4y agoI sincerely hope that we won't be abusing CRISPR-like gene editing in 2040 in the same way that we now abuse antibiotics. But I am not very optimistic about that.
- je6jer4t 4y agoWhy...? The reason it's problematic in the present is the over time reduction in the effectiveness of antibiotics. Is the assumption here that the same will be true of CRISPR drugs?
- chaorace 4y agotl;dr: it's a treatment for sickle cell disease and another less common disease that shares a similar pathology. Almost everyone who received treatment were found to no longer need blood transfusions, even more than a year later.
