USB installer tool removes Windows 11’s Microsoft account requirements
- avsteele 4y agoWin 11 will require a Microsoft account?? That's nuts. How am I supposed to set up shared machines that run equipment in e.g. labs? The users want a single account with shared settings and data. Am I supposed to make a new throwaway MS account with email address for each machine?
- technion 4y agoWe provision an account an account per lab machine, with a name/password that's basically public, then build a Conditional Access policy that ensures those credentials can only be used from that machine.
- simooooo 4y agoThere’s always been an option to use set the machine without a MS account
- kotaKat 4y agoIIRC that solution is "get an Enterprise image".
- hyperman1 4y agoI wonder why people even tolerate MS's behavior and keep on adding these workarounds. I remember the 80's activists, cutting holes in fences of military installations. Some politician commented in an interview about the impact: basically we ordered some extra rolls of fence when we built it, and wait until they get tired of their activism. Windows feels similar. Someone wrote a tool to fix MS's latest abomination. Again. Remember the WinXP abominations like integrated DRM and a non-public theming API? Almost nobody patches them out anymore. People just gave up. The next windows iteration of Win11 will break this, someone patches it again, etc.. until no one cares. If you choose this way to fix the problems, MS will win long term, and you're helping them boil the frog.
- nicbou 4y agoI don't. Windows 10 and 11 turned my OS choice from a preference to a requirement. I will not buy a Windows machine for a long time. They turned their OS into borderline malware.

That's because you are not their customer, you are their free advertisement that you pay for privilege of being. Their real customers are on enterprise level, and because of that, their enterprise version of Windows/Office differs from even pro one. So get yourself better enterprise version (if you can, good luck with that). Also if you want to lease a computer, Linux option is more expensive.
- prepend 4y ago> That's because you are not their customer, you are their free advertisement that you pay for privilege of being. I paid $150 or something for windows. I helped my kids build a gaming machine and bought windows myself for the first time in decades. I’m definitely their customer and it’s a bad experience for the most expensive piece of software I’ve bought personally. If they were giving away home windows, I’d agree. But I think they know they have a monopoly and don’t care and are just squeezing extra revenue as much as possible.
- ChuckNorris89 4y ago>If they were giving away home windows, I’d agree. They pretty much are though. I activated my Windows 11 installation with a pirated CD key from the windows 7 days and it's still working just fine. They obviously know that CD has been used by so many over the years but it seems they don't bother enforcing the license.
- w4rh4wk5 4y ago> I wonder why people even tolerate MS's behavior Well, what are users supposed to do? Switch to macOS?! Switch to Linux?! Yeah, like that works for the majority of desktop users that need to get their work done.
- luckman212 4y agoI just got stymied by this a few days ago, and turned to reddit[0] to ask for some help. No answer yet. [0] https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/vnl6sa/correct_way_to_upgrade_win11_home_to_pro/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/vnl6sa/correct_way...
