It seems like developing new IPs probably looks good on paper, but I'd argue there's limited appeal to the formula.
- jandrese 4y agoThe problem is all of their games are greedy time sucks. You can't play more than one at a time because they all want to be front and center constantly. So all of of their games have to compete with one another, and nothing is going to beat Pokemon anytime soon. The IP just fit their existing game mold too nicely. It was a lightning in a bottle moment. Plus, the gameplay loop is rather grindy and honestly not that much fun. Were it not for Pokemon only a handful of nerds would even know about the company.
- jimmaswell 4y agoI found it amusing helping my friend "cheat" at Pokemon Go a while ago. There's a popular walkway over the river full of gyms and stuff in the game, closed at night. We went under it in the middle of the night on my boat and he took over all the gyms. Sure you could just spoof your gps, but this was a lot more fun.
- jandrese 4y agoThe problem is that taking over gyms like that is useless. After the first one is evicted you'll hit the coin limit and the rest won't earn anything. There's no point in taking over multiple gyms unless you expect to be kicked out quickly or you can spread them out and some of them are in remote enough areas to last a day or more before getting kicked out.
