Judge William Adams beats daughter for using the internet [video]
Texas district attorney has said that the statute of limitations has run out on charges.
- suivix 15y agoThis isn't tech news.
- codezero 15y agoShe got beat for using the internet.
- benjoffe 15y agoFurthermore this occurred in 2004.
- codezero 15y agoThis is exactly the point. Because the video was shot in 2004 but not released until this year, the violent family law Judge who is responsible for presiding over cases that involve child abuse cannot be brought to justice for beating the shit out of his 16 year old daughter, who, by the way, suffers from cerebral palsy.
- burgerbrain 15y ago1) "Tech news" isn't just about gadgets, but also about how technology effects our lives. This girl was viciously beaten for using technology, that certainly qualifies. 2) HN is not restricted to merely "tech news", and I don't know why you would think it is. You might not find it particularly interesting or compelling, and therefore you are free to abstain from the discussion.
- nextparadigms 15y agoWasn't this because she used Kazaa? http://torrentfreak.com/video-judge-savagely-beats-his-daughter-for-illegal-downloads-111102/ http://torrentfreak.com/video-judge-savagely-beats-his-daugh...
- DanBC 15y agoSome of this is politics, and thus usually lousy for HN. But the extreme level of violence and abuse; coupled with effective Internet action, makes it a mildly interesting HN topic. Cultural note: what's the point of the statute of limitations? Why does not being caught for five years make it ok to beat the shit out of a vulnerable young woman / girl ? He won't be charged, even though he admits he did it, he was caught on video doing it: (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/nov/03/texas-judge-william-adams-beats-daugther?newsfeed=true http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/nov/03/texas-judge-will...)
- codezero 15y agoGenerally, I think the statute is applied only to "lesser" crimes, because after a certain amount of time, the clarity of the testimony from witnesses is likely to degrade and investigators' abilities to gather evidence are greatly diminished. It also probably was created before video cameras existed.
