Google loses two execs: one for Messaging and Workspace, another for Payments
- htrp 4y ago>A big part of Google's payment problems is this kind of instability, with Google's payment app running through four different brands in 10 years (Google Wallet, then Android Pay, then Google Pay, now Google Wallet again). >As for Google Workspace, Soltero presided over the launch of Google Workspace, the fourth re-brand of Google's business app suite. (By my count, it was "Google Apps for your Domain," then "Google Apps for Work," then "G Suite," then "Google Workspace.") Are we going to look at Google as the Xerox of our time.... brilliant technologists who completely fail at business execution?
- mrkramer 4y agoPerhaps. They are too big but as history teaches us not too big to fail.
- setr 4y agoIsn’t the vast majority of google’s income still from search/ads? The failure of these side projects doesn’t impact them significantly (or alternatively, like VC with startups, they’re just looking for one project to succeed)
- mrkramer 4y ago>Isn’t the vast majority of google’s income still from search/ads? Yes it is that's what I wanted to say; they are neglecting their core business >Search and that will eventually destroy them. Google Search has so many flaws and that's why I believe something better will come sooner or later.
- dmitrygr 4y ago> one for Messaging Franz Kafka has quit working at google ?
- 0des 4y agoAs many messaging concepts as Google owns and has owned over time, I'd imagine this is not the only messaging exec on the payroll. Could anybody from G comment one way or the other?
- dmitrygr 4y agoThere is a google sheets spreadsheet internally, maintained by volunteers, listing ALL the current and past messaging clients google has. Even scrolling across it taxes a top-of-the-line computer
