I'm living in Lantau, it's a really great place :-) I doubt you would recognize it though. Discovery Bay which would have been very new in 1989 is now a huge and wealthy place gathering mainly westerners. Tung Chung is now a busy hub with the new airport and Macau bridge. Mui Wo is booming. There are even talks of expanding the island artificially for more housing.
