- suprfsat 4y agoAnything Peter Thiel has touched
- sicp-enjoyer 4y agoSounds like an enemy centered value system.
- Tycho 4y agoFacebook is evil? Paypal? How?
- corrral 4y agoI can't tell if these questions are sarcastic, so I guess I'll answer. Facebook? Yes, of course. The core of their business model is stalker-like spying, which they then leverage against their users (and non-users). They are irredeemably evil. Fixing the evil would ruin the business. Their business is evil. Paypal? See: literally any discussion of them on practically any website, including this one. Yes, they're evil. Unlike Facebook, though, they could probably remain profitable while not being evil, so they're a bit better I suppose.
- boeingUH60 4y agoHe has touched many things such that I think it's impossible to avoid - https://foundersfund.com/portfolio/ https://foundersfund.com/portfolio/; https://www.mithril.com/our-companies/ https://www.mithril.com/our-companies/; https://app.dealroom.co/investors/thiel_capital https://app.dealroom.co/investors/thiel_capital.
- it_citizen 4y agoNowadays I would immediately think about Nestle or Monsanto. In the past, the east India company seems like a good one.
- tawayadf2 4y agohttps://www.anduril.com/ https://www.anduril.com/ and lots of other companies which create drones with the intention of wiping out entire wedding parties to hopefully kill one bad guy
- boeingUH60 4y agoAs far as I know, Anduril's drones are for surveillance and aren't weaponized...But maybe they have plans to do that in the future.
- BWStearns 4y agoExperian?
- mikkergp 4y agoBernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC?
- foobiekr 4y agoJuul and Uber (insanely exploitative plus the scandal of tracking reporters) are pretty evil, as one of many, many examples. The recent HN thread on Juul had people defending them as "not really selling to children."
- danaris 4y agoAny company that does union busting. Any company with at least one shareholder or exec who's a billionaire. Any company that sells a product at a loss to drive smaller competitors out of business. Any company that supports politicians who promote the lie that the 2020 election was stolen. Any company that lobbies to stop or reduce the fight against climate change. It would be easy to go on.
- Tycho 4y agoHmm but when people use the term “evil” they’re usually not referring to petty political grievances du jour.
