- cdot2 4y agoSomeone can have different values than me and not be evil
- wccrawford 4y agoIt doesn't matter what you consider evil. The statement only referenced what each employee thinks of as evil.
- cdot2 4y agoYes most people don't believe that people who hold different values are evil
- fuckcensorship 4y agoWhat percentage do you think just wants to work and doesn’t really care about corporate social/political justice?
- giantg2 4y agoOnly the ones not directly affected by the prospective laws, or company policies.
- sn0w_crash 4y agoI believe Most people, including the groups being pandered to by the corporation, would choose a productive and happy environment that doesn’t do performative virtue signaling - over a toxic and hostile company that pretends to “care” about social justice.
- Tycho 4y agoWhat’s an example of a company that could be so widely considered as evil?
- suprfsat 4y agoAnything Peter Thiel has touched
- sicp-enjoyer 4y agoSounds like an enemy centered value system.
- Tycho 4y agoFacebook is evil? Paypal? How?
- corrral 4y agoI can't tell if these questions are sarcastic, so I guess I'll answer. Facebook? Yes, of course. The core of their business model is stalker-like spying, which they then leverage against their users (and non-users). They are irredeemably evil. Fixing the evil would ruin the business. Their business is evil. Paypal? See: literally any discussion of them on practically any website, including this one. Yes, they're evil. Unlike Facebook, though, they could probably remain profitable while not being evil, so they're a bit better I suppose.

- it_citizen 4y agoNowadays I would immediately think about Nestle or Monsanto. In the past, the east India company seems like a good one.
- blowfish721 4y agoAn old friend of mine was the most privacy aware person I’ve ever met, payed for everything in cash where possible, refused all social media etc. Yeah he’s working for Meta now so if the pay is good enough and the work you do challenges you then I think a lot of people would throw out the values stated by the company as very important.
- muaytimbo 4y agoI turned down an interview at FB because I don't believe in censorship. I didn't see the numbers but I'd bet that the paycheck would've been fatter.
- foobiekr 4y ago56% aren't willing to lie about it. I have a friend who spent nearly 20 years working for manipulative/unethical/scandal-plagued garbage companies like Zynga and constantly would defend company-of-the-moment as "Well, actually, not at all like what the press is implying." They paid well.
- justin_oaks 4y agoOr 56% lie to themselves about it. Sometimes people don't realize what they will decide until they're actually faced with the decision. It's like asking someone "Would you pay money for [product or service you're thinking of selling]?" And when you have the product or service and ask people to pay, most people turn you down.
- foobiekr 4y agoAgreed. It's not until you ask people to put skin in the game that you get truth - revealed preferences. I'm working on a new company right now and this is one of those things that is front of mind if you've been there before.
