I've been playing dnD 5e for several years, and when I was more active, had a nearly didactic memory of the rules, or where to find the specifics of a rule. I'm currently playing with a new group at a game shop, and have to actively hold myself back from saying too much at once. There's a certain level of "enough has been said" to give enough detail to let things continue, without making people feel like they made suboptimal character choices.
