This is a horrible "article". For starters, it reads like an advertisement in many places and like a drunk person at a bar in other places:
"You don't really care about your employees if you aren't giving them new laptops every two years. You know - their productivity will suck. And who doesn't want new laptops? Think of their morale!"
What are the technical reasons?
Security: bullshit. If a vendor stops supporting drivers for the hardware, particularly within the first three or four years, STOP USING THAT VENDOR. If security is improved because the new laptop has a new version of whatever OS is on that, that's a you problem, not a laptop problem.
Are there ANY other technical reasons? I can't find any.
"Research" from Intel? Of course Intel is going to tell you to send two year old laptops to landfills because they want more money.
This article is a waste of time.
- jaclaz 4y agoIf (and I mean IF) it was possible to actually "transfer" reliably both programs/installs and all data/settings, then it could make some (very little anyway) sense in some edge cases. But - unless I missed something - the procedure of transferring programs and data - besides being unreliable - takes lots of time, hours or more often days, so besides the cost of the new hardware you have to calculate the cost of the IT personnel and also the reduced productivity (and often frustration) of your employees that will spend some time, every day for several days to "fine tune" the settings on the new machine as they already had on the old machine.
