Blockchains are a public database of all transactions. Law enforcement don't even need a warrant to get access to literally everything that has ever happened. Why anyone would think that a system like that offers any actual privacy is beyond me.

- uoaei 4y agoCoinbase's service is a paid service, which uses analytics to distill that information for LE. So, while true that the "information" is publicly available, the signal-to-noise ratio is abysmal, and Coinbase offers a valuable service that LE would otherwise have to implement themselves. Ergo, Coinbase is effectively in the "police and surveillance technologies" space while they operate this service.
- gowld 4y agoCoinbase's service uses public data that is MORE exposed if you use your own keys, instead of hiding inside an exchange.
