Spot on comment - agreed 100%. I generally agree that certain aspects of US system are completely broken comparing to UE. (I was also born in UE and moved to US).
However w.r.t. "capitalism" vs "socialism" I must say that it is related but wrong lenses to look at it. The right distinction is "individually" vs "collectively" owned.
US corporations are "collaboratively owned" even if they are "private" in theory. This is what makes them work the same as "collaboratively owned bureaucracies". Working in a big US corpo is like getting a cozy job in a government. European SWE companies are "individually owned", even if they are surrounded by more social-inclined environment (which comes with it's own pros and cons).
- Mo3 4y agoYou’re right, most, especially almost all of the smaller and medium-sized SWE companies are owned by individuals, but we sure do have corporations here as well. They look similar to any other US institution on the inside, but are obviously mostly still operating under the local understanding of work and employee rights. I have no real experience with the seriously big corporations, that always seemed like something I’d rather not work at personally, but I don’t believe it’s very different there.
