The housing market's next big crisis: too many homes

- Victerius 4y agoThat's not a crisis. Too many homes is a great thing for families and first time buyers, i.e. the people houses are made for. Too many homes is only a crisis for flippers and speculators. If you want to become rich, get a high paying job or start a business that provides real value to the economy. Not a crisis.
- Grimburger 4y agoImagine saying there is too much food/water/gas/energy with a straight face to someone. Also that site is utterly horrendous with its popups, solely seems to exist for headlines and twitter retweets rather than content.
- throwaway0a5e 4y ago> Imagine saying there is too much food/water/gas/energy with a straight face to someone. I sure hear a lot of statements that sound a lot like that with only the scantest of qualification here on HN. I think the housing equivalent would be something along the lines of "there are too many single family houses available".
- raxxorraxor 4y agoThat is great for basically everyone aside from people speculating with housing prices or workers actually building them. But the latter will probably find employment elsewhere easily right now. Couldn't read the article behind the paywall.
- Someone 4y agoIt also is harsh on those who borrowed money to buy a house, with the idea to pay back part of it over the years, and, after retirement, move to a smaller house or a house in a less desirable place, and use the price difference to pay back their mortgage and, with the rest, fund their pension. And no, that doesn’t mean those people speculated. Even if prices stay flat, that could mean they got a decent lump sum from such a move.
