Nuclear-powered flying hotel that can stay airborne for years with 5k people
- matt321 4y agoNow Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk can live physically above us as well as above us in their heads.
- wrycoder 4y agoWater and food supply limited. Waste output unlimited. Discuss.
- LinuxBender 4y agoWhat is the cost/profit model? What is the use case for this? Surely not a luxury hotel, people would want to "leave" after some time. Is this for an apocalyptic event that precludes living on the surface of the planet? Staying above volcanic ash? Magma liquefaction from a large asteroid? Is there a full-service hospital? One medical issue and this beast has to land somewhere or we just accept that persons fate, or strap-on a parachute and send them to the ground? Will there be detachable mini-EVTol planes? What is the FAA's input on this? Will the computer take off and land, always? If not, who trains the pilots? Does the NRC regulate the power plant? What are the aerodynamic specifications of this thing? How far can it glide when the power distribution fails? What is the weight of 5k people along with 5 years of food and water? Food can be made very dense albeit not very enjoyable but water storage is a fixed weight. Will water be collected from the air? Will EV drones gather water from the surface and return to the ship? Speaking of water, will the grey-water be "recycled"? Body wipes? Personal hygiene wash bottles? This concept brings up thousands of questions in my mind but here is a big one... Which airports are rated for the weight of this aircraft? Current cargo aircraft are approaching existing limits as is. Unlike jet fuel these aircraft will land almost as heavy as they took off. Custom built airports in very remote areas maybe? How much will those airports cost?
