"Initial map to share with students on the problem with poop in San Francisco. Poop Map, reports from 07/19 thru 07/20" If this is similar to http://mochimachine.org/wasteland/ http://mochimachine.org/wasteland/ (from 2017) this is a map listing reports made by individual 311 calls. Wasteland map was 2008-2015, this latest map is just one year. Could be interesting to see how the number of reports change over the years. I tried clicking around a cluster to see if multiple reports were made for the same incident, and so making it look worse that it appears, but they appeared to have different dates. The date format wasn't human readable though.

I would never have expected such calls creating that much data points, this is crazily detailed. Even for two years this seems like a lot of poop. I mean how many people do call in poop in the first place?

  I would guess it's like one or two dedicated people.

    I mean they have to be cleaned up by the city so that process must be tracked.

    The is requests to the city to clean it up, so it's likely to be many people. The city has an app and dedicated phone number for it I think.

  More I'd hope. There's a good reason for it too, faeces and trash will attract rats and the combination is a good source for all kinds of health issues, especially if you mix it with a large homeless population. Check out the number of Typhus cases in the last years.

  Back when I lived in San Francisco I've met many people who used the SF311 app [0] where you can very quickly snap a picture and report an issue. One person I knew did so multiple times a day every day for many things – poop, trash, etc. The impressive thing was that the authorities would indeed show up often and clean things up.
