When I used to work in retail, my approach to shoplifting was that I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, and I don't know anything. You want to empty the meat case right in front of me? Walk out with a cartload of cigarettes and baby formula? Not my problem. I was just the janitor; I was getting a buck and a dime above minimum wage to mop floors and clean toilets, and I wasn't about to risk my ass confronting shoplifters. I didn't give a shit if it cost the store money; my life matters more.
