I wonder whether the continuing deterioration of the US' ability to provide medical care for normal people will lead to a rise in bio-hacking. At some point, the technology needed to produce simple but effective medication for widespread illnesses must be feasible enough for many people. And when you're detached from an affordable access to the medical system, you may not care about the potential shunning that results from DIY medication.
