What Life Is Like When Corn Is Off the Table
- ryzvonusef 4y ago>Corn allergies are relatively rare, and ones as severe as Robinson’s are rarer still. (Many people unable to eat whole corn can still tolerate more processed corn derivatives.) But to live with a corn allergy is to understand very intimately how corn is everywhere.
- Finnucane 4y agoIs citric acid from corn different from citric acid from fruit? Citric acid is naturally occurring in a lot of foods.
- icegreentea2 4y agoThe actual chemical isn't different. You just get potential trace amounts of corn protein left in the product.
- Finnucane 4y agoSo the potential contamination is because the product isn't pure enough. Presumably some of the other additives have the same issue.

- ryzvonusef 4y agoHas there been any legislation on identifying possible corn-protein related contamination in products?

- Jtsummers 4y agoA very easily resolved problem thanks to the Internet Archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20220228234536/https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/01/what-its-like-be-allergic-corn/580594/ https://web.archive.org/web/20220228234536/https://www.theat...
- ricardobeat 4y ago> Table salt has dextrose > fish (dipped in cornstarch or syrup before freezing > fruits like apples and citrus (waxed with corn-derived chemicals) > milk (added vitamins processed with corn derivatives) These are either disallowed, or explicitly labelled in the EU. Not everything is perfect (supermarket bread in particular can be full of crap) but I'm glad to have mostly unadulterated food readily available.
