Here in Southern Oregon a roof-top bank of solar panels works great to have "free" AC almost all the daylight hours. Even with the AC cranked to keep us at 72 we still generate 143% of the energy we consume. Kind of eases my conscience a little about running it 7 hours straight.
- ggcdn 4y agoNice. What was the upfront cost and expected payoff time when compared to grid only?
- scruple 4y agoSame in Southern California. Despite increasing our reliance on our AC system, we're generating 172% (system was sized with an EV in mind that we intend to purchase in the coming year) more than we consume since the system was installed. We don't even have a very large system, it's only 5.6kWh. We've always been energy conscious but this drove us to aggressively identify idle loads that were higher than they should've been, too. We also have a Powerwall so we're effectively off-the-grid.
