LED bulbs are easily 14W, 40W LED panels are popular (Philips Hue Aurelle, IKEA Floalt, various others), and LED strips quickly add up. The LED lights in my apartment add up to about 170W.
So yeah it adds up.

- arghwhat 4y agoYes, so LED lights can easily be a sizeable chunk of a small AC, and thats before accounting for the AC's duty cycle.
- cptcobalt 4y agoYeah, +1 on this anecdotal evidence. I did whole home lighting upgrades and got way more LED strips/panels/etc after I installed solar+battery at home. Not quite to like 170W per room or anything, but I am using measurably more power than before.
- Symbiote 4y agoI just change CFL bulbs for LED ones as they fail, which is what I suspect most people do. That should be a straightforward decrease in power use. 6W/bulb is less than ~9-15W/bulb, reduced from the incandescent 60-100W/bulb (but I haven't installed an incandescent bulb for 15 years).
- 0xffff2 4y ago>The LED lights in my apartment add up to about 170W. That adds up to ~3 medium intensity incandescent light bulbs. Unless you live in a very small apartment, I think you're still coming out way ahead on energy usage.
- arghwhat 4y agoI know, but it's also very far from zero and people might have most of their lights on for quite a few hours. ~200W for 4-6 hours every day for almost every household in a country is a huge number, and that's with the assumption that they're all LED. Its also not orders of magnitude form AC usage: If small 800W AC runs at 50% duty cycle for a similar number of hours, the light is approx half the AC consumption. Turning off light you don't need will absolutely make a difference.
