Second this! For a such a great, world-class city, Chicago is very affordable compared to other major metropolitan areas. I bought a single-family home in the city within walking distance to the "L" for 350k in 2017. And this was not in some undesirable area.
The tech scene does not get enough love either, but I guess that matters less now that more jobs are fully remote.
- sbmthakur 4y agoThe public transit makes living at Chicago significantly less car dependent. My only beef is the harsh winters.
- tedivm 4y agoThe harsh winters beat the wildfire smoke of the bay area. I moved to Chicago last year and couldn't be happier.
- halfmatthalfcat 4y agoThe public transit is fine but could be leagues better. Wish the CTA would finally create the Circle Line - going to the Loop and back out to get to disparate parts of the city is so inefficient. The bus system is pretty good tho.
- bkuehl 4y agoYes, some winters can be absolutely brutal. But like others have mentioned, you don't have to deal with drought, wildfires, hurricanes, etc. And the upper Midwest summer weather is amazing IMO.
