I remember when we had to cut own bread in a supermarket.
It was a machine with lots of sharp blades that you put a bread in and then pulled a lever and the bread w2as pushed through the cutting mechanism and it came out the other side.
Imagine giving the public access to that now.
- tallanvor 4y agoThey're automatic now, but almost every grocery store in Norway has them still: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Bread_slicing_machine_Foodtech_Br%C3%B8dskj%C3%A6remaskin_EXTRA_COOP_Norway_2017-11-02_loaf_of_brad_into_machine.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Bread_sl...
- tibbydudeza 4y agoYep that's the one even with the crumbs and offcut bread loaves - rather messy.
- 12907835202 4y agoI loved this when I visited Norway, even made a video of me using it for posterity! I don't know what the right terminology is but I always prefer the unsliced imperfect loaves rather than the perfect rectangular presliced ones. Those machines were great as it meant I didn't have to slice them every morning and it did a better job.

- grandmczeb 4y agoSo do a lot of US supermarkets. E.g. this is very similar to the what the Whole Foods near me has[1]. [1] https://i.redd.it/890j54rv6wk71.jpg https://i.redd.it/890j54rv6wk71.jpg
