One thing missing in this otherwise awesome discussion among peers is that except for the interregnum for Covid lockdowns, iPhone users are able to walk into Apple stores and get support pretty much on demand and free for any Apple software product. But people (including my mother!) just assume that includes all software on their phone, and sometimes people think it's for hardware as well.
The expectation is that the genius bar resources are built into the purchase of Apple products, which makes it harder to support 3rd party browsers or any other 3rd party products that just "stopped working" or "won't let me log into my bank account" -- again both things that happened with my mother 3000 miles away and I couldn't fix long distance, but the genius bar did for free when she walked in.
So it's a tough choice on that - better to have higher prices and better service, or options that nobody fixes because there is less of a sense of accountability?
