I think these are simultaneously true:
- The Universe is teaming with life, because thermodyamics creates information processing structures, or rather a hierarchy of dissipative structures where the structures at the lower levels are selected for thermodynamic effiency, which is a selection for information processing. The structures at the higher levels like galaxies and stars are everywhere, why wouldn't the rest of the hierarchy. However we can't detect that yet, and will need that proof.

- People who believe in aliens are doing it for the same psychological reason flat Earthers believe in what they believe in. It makes the feel special. This is guided by social influence and a conspiracy mentality, hence all the motivated reasoning. I don't know if education or a psychologist would be better to fix this, but something along those lines went wrong in the person's life.
- Aliens could have visited Earth. The distances in space would suggest otherwise, but there is a large amount of uncertainty in what these aliens could be capable of, even beyond our understanding of physics. You can't have it both ways though, the aliens can't be simultanously clever enough to stay hidden, but clumsy enough to occasionally show themselves to aircraft pilots. Militaries like to use aliens as a cover for testing, but pilots are also suspectible to misidentifying what they see. The blurry pictures themselves don't prove anything. These cases are cursed with a large potential for human error and manipulation.
