My 1955 M3 with a f/2 Summicron, that I talked my dad into buying back then, still works fine. A new aspheric 50mm f/2 Summicron, lens alone, is now $12,560, about 25x what we paid for the camera and lens together.
The new lens is "better", but the old one gives a classic softness.
And, good b/w film is still available[0], though Kodachrome is, sadly, gone.

Wow, that's actually the APO version (apochromatic, made from some special combination of controlled dispersion glass), but yeah they did find a way to make their stuff cost even more. I had jumped because it is way more than the older non-APO 35/2 ASPH which used to be around $2k, the regular 50/2 Summicron is under $3k, and the 50/1.4 Summulux ASPH which is around $4.5K. A "discount" is available at BH, merely $9K+ if that helps: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/860529-REG/Leica_11141_APO_Summicron_M_50mm_f_2_0_ASPH.html/overview https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/860529-REG/Leica_1114... I guess I will keep using my phone camera.
