If you’re serious, you may want to talk to a lawyer.
For example, depending on what type of student you are, and if you used school resources, your university might have some ownership of what you created.
So, first confirm you actually own copyright over what you made. Then work out what to do next.
- temporalparts 4y ago+1. The best advice is to go talk to a lawyer. HackerNews is full of opinionated people who aren't lawyers.
- yeputons 4y agoMoreover, I believe not all kinds of work are permitted on F-1 visa, so "built an app" with(out) "charge for the application" may actually be a violation of the visa rules and lead to an explusion/deportation/whatever.
- KhoiUna 4y agoHow about see their willing to pay first then talk to a lawyer?
- CaliforniaKarl 4y agoI'd say, follow the advice abhv posted. They are better-placed in the University system, and so I think their advice applies better than mine.
- chrismatheson 4y agoI wouldn't bother here. Much cheaper than a lawyer is to start a Ltd company and sell the thing under that. A) If the uni find out I doubt they would do anything without coming and talking to your first, squashing an entrepenurial student is not great PR B) If things do go the legal route, well the company won't own anything, shutter the doors and walk away with some good life lessons.
