Wait, so competent design includes making decisions assuming that users know how to use a 3 button mouse correctly? Including, for example, that middle clicking the title bar sends a window to the back of the stack?
Seriously? Anyone who designs a general purpose operating system based on that assumption probably shouldn’t be designing general purpose operating systems.
And that’s just the first one. The next complain is that middle clicking selected text allows copy pasting without using the clipboard. So apparently good design is having a clipboard but also not a clipboard.
Gnome designers may be incompetent (considering that nearly every OS is building on that, if they are, they are at least more competent than nearly everyone else in the Linux design world), but these are not signs of their incompetence.
- addicted 4y ago> The guys at Xerox PARC and Apple who invented the GUI knew this. The clowns at Red Hat don't. The guys at Apple stuck to a 1 button mouse until about a decade ago. And here you’re calling designers incompetent because they’re not assuming users will know hot to middle click a title bar to send the window to the back.
