Re-AOL: An AOL server emulator
- yuppie_scum 4y agoYes! AOL was a major component of many people’s lives back then and there has been literally no way to emulate or reproduce the experience 20 years. I’m not saying it was a tech utopia or anything but I consider it to have somewhat historic merit. For that brief period of history, the internet experience was unique and only a certain generation really lived with it.
- dontbenebby 4y agoYou can't emulate someone showing up at your house barefoot to confront you about some anonymous AIM account you had nothing to do with and nearly pissing themselves when your dad yells from his chair next to the family bird "Should I go unlock the guns? Why does this fucking moron think he can come into our home uninvited because of the internet? Tell him to call the cops if he's so sure you did something on the computer and get the fuck out of here." (I didn't have AOL, but AIM was a hell of a wild ride, especially if you made a mistake at 12 of using a portmanteau of your first and last name as your handle)
