M. Andreessen:‘Find the smartest technologist in the company and make them CEO’

• cratermoon 4y ago
What if they don't want to be CEO? What if they prefer working on technical stuff and don't especially enjoy the duties and spotlight of CEO? Which one was the smarter technologist? Steve Jobs or Steve Wozniak Bill Gates or Paul Allen Larry Page, Sergey Brin, or Scott Hassan Mark Zuckerberg or Andrew McCollum Marc Randolph or Reed Hastings You see what I'm getting at?

I'd love to buy a modern Apple-led-by-Woz device, kidding?

I'm not saying the Woz wouldn't make a good CEO, or that Apple with him at the helm wouldn't be good. What I'm saying is that Woz is the better technologist, but Jobs got the CEO's chair. The opposite of what Andreessen is advocating for in the article.

Tesla might be the best example of just such a company. And yeah, Elon didn’t want to be CEO. Even tried to get Diess on board. But there was no other choice. Good for the company, I guess, because no great technologist will actually want to be CEO.
