I’m not sure what was the type of problem that he asked the engineers, for which they could simply copy and paste “perfectly optimized” answers from the internet… I suspect they were just some common algorithm questions, supposed to be answered in a very popular programming language. Then of course this is what he would get as a result. Still can’t deduce from this that paper-based interviewing is the answer. For a customized coding challenge with moderate complexity, I can’t foresee this kind of issue easily arising.
