Targeting PERK protein in smooth muscle cells may reduce atherosclerotic plaques
- JPLeRouzic 4y agoThe real (too long) title is: "Targeting a specific protein in smooth muscle cells may dramatically reduce atherosclerotic plaque formation" https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/epdf/10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.317451 https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/epdf/10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.317... What I find interesting is that the protein is PERK, one of the proteins implicated in the cellular stress response, and more specifically in the unfolded protein response [1]. The stress response (or the deregulation of) may be implicated in several neurodegenerative diseases. So blocking PERK in these male mice resulted in an 80% decrease of atherosclerotic plaque buildup.
