Not sure what the logic is behind branding Mozilla/FF as somehow an enemy of the open web. If Apple hadn't repeatedly blocked the release of an actual Firefox for iOS you could maybe attempt to argue it, but it existed and Apple didn't allow its release.
- Klonoar 4y agoThat is not what the parent comment you're replying to said. They're noting that Mozilla/FF only truly derives revenue from a Google ad deal. They hold no real power with regards to user numbers otherwise. Whether or not their custom engine exists on iOS has no impact here.
- tgv 4y agoI wouldn't call Mozilla/Firefox an enemy of the open web, but they don't contribute to it anymore. As a lifelong Firefox user I say: we're heavily outnumbered. Many devs don't care about FF, so it regularly happens that FF simply doesn't work or only half. Even my newspaper subscription doesn't work on FF. It is simply no longer relevant to any discussion about the web. BTW, there is a Firefox for iOS, and I use it. It may be a Webkit wrapper, but it surely is a more pleasant experience than Firefox for Android, and I also like it (slightly) better than Safari on iOS. But I'm very casual mobile phone user, so that should not be extrapolated to the web experience in general.
