‘Disney Adults’ Became the Most Hated Group on the Internet
- zeruch 4y agoBeyond the "cringe" factor mentioned, I have long found Disney a cretinous org. I was not much of a fan as a kid, and by adulthood found their IP shenanigans reprehensible, compounded by working in so-called "anti-piracy" where I got to watch members of the almost stepford-esque cult at work up close. It's a horrible company, and it's biggest adult fanatics are indeed, deeply cringe.
- Akronymus 4y agodisney fans feels pretty much like a cult a to me. Proposing a wedding in a theme park and such things. On a tangent: From my social circles, it seems that the most hated group is not disney adults (altough, they rate highy) but rather news reporters, for often getting the facts wrong (badly researched) or writing with a STRONG agenda. Rolling stone being a particular common example for number 2.
- TrackerFF 4y agoI haven't watched a Disney movie since - dunno, Frozen? So almost 10 years. I'm an adult in my mid 30s, loved Disney as a kid. But I do understand my peers (mostly women) that do LOVE Disney. Nostalgia is really powerful stuff - and I do observe other peers in my age group that collect NES / SNES / Sega / PS1 / PC games etc. from the times we grew up. You really don't see much hate towards these people - nor should anyone! Sure it may look a bit cringe and off when grown adults get completely enamored in things that are mainly geared toward kids, but that's nostalgia and comfort media. Adult life can be bland, menial, hard - so of course people will seek various forms of escapism. But, Disney as a corporation - that's another story. But I don't think these "Disney adults" really give much thought into that.
