The idea of political "neutrality" is completely subjective, which is clearly lost on these researchers, especially after reading their paper. The idea that it is possible to distill political positions to a left vs right spectrum is incredibly absurd and reductionist (despite how widespread it is) - which the authors themselves admit in the paper! For example, in their methods section, they list the Washington Post as their benchmark for "center-left". There is perhaps no large publication in the United States that beats the drums of war louder than the Washington Post for every war, invasion, attack or bombing suggested by the Pentagon - but they are used by these researchers as an objective metric for being "center-left"?
