The headline is quite poor, as bonobos did not "pave the way" for any human behavior, peaceful or otherwise. We are not descended from bonobos, because bonobos and humans are both modern day species. There is no particular evidence that our distant ancestors were more similar in behavior to either bonobos or chimpanzees, or for that matter gorillas or orangutans. The split between bonobos and chimpanzees came long after the split between our last common ancestor and them, so it is equally plausible that either chimpanzees or bonobos could be similar to our ancestors' behavior, and more likely still that all three species behave differently than our last common ancestor.
Studying bonobos is a good way of finding out about bonobos, which is a worthy enterprise, but it doesn't necessarily tell us anything about humans, present or past, and bonobos certainly couldn't have "paved the way" for human anything.
