- zafka 4y agoLooks like a fun article but it bothers me that that the lead-in example is wrong- overlooking 7 year old research that was pretty broadly disseminated: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.1500795 https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.1500795 It is not the royal jelly that produces the queen, but the absence of "beebread" that is fed to the worker bees.
- ksaj 4y agoI was thinking this was a different way of saying the same thing. One has more nutrients. The other has RNA tied to size and development in plants. Until "protect them from inhibitory effects of phytochemicals present in the honey and beebread" which indeed is something I hadn't heard about until just now. The fact that they know how to proportionally mix the portions of honey, beebread and royal jelly depending on the prospective adult duties of the larvae and young, puts them on par with some high profile chemists and nutritionists.
