One advantage of nuclear over renewables that doesn't get talked about as much is its portability. Most of the US's solar/wind potential is in the middle whereas most of the demand is on the coasts. Nuclear, like fossil fuels, can be built relatively close to cities and industrial centers where it is needed whereas industrial scale renewable generation need massive amount of new transmission lines (high costs and NIMBYism) to add the necessary capacity.
