"public displays of affection are frowned upon regardless of sexual orientation"
That, I agree with.
- shafyy 4y agoI was about to downvote you, but I'll bite. Why do you think this?
- pishpash 4y agoIt's all arbitrary. People frown on public defecation. Why is that?
- Lio 4y ago>People frown on public defecation. Why is that? I would have thought that was obvious. It's because it smells, spreads disease and is seen as a general disregard for others that have to be near what's left behind.
- pishpash 4y agoNow apply this to spiritual pollution.
- shmde 4y agoIf watching 2 people being affectionate towards one another is spiritual pollution then maybe your spiritualism sucks ass ?
- pishpash 4y agoYet we don't allow them to go too far or it becomes public indecency. Why? "Indecency" is completely cultural. People are triggered by different things. Somebody above is disgusted by a standard bodily function when done in public.
- Lio 4y agoIf you’re talking about me, I’m not disgusted with standard bodily functions done in public. If you want to use a street urinal or similar that’s fine by me. If you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go. I think what most people object to is what’s left behind; the piss and shit, not the act itself. I don’t want to step in it or smell it or see it. Same goes for dog shit. You’re not going to catch something from passing strangers holding hands, except maybe a broader world view.
- CodeBeater 4y agoSorry if I come across as aggressive or condescending. But why? I'm don't immediately disagree with your opinion, just curious.
- solar-ice 4y ago"Frowned on" here is a euphemism for "likely to get you 40 lashes". I'm sure you don't agree with that.
- someweirdperson 4y agoPeople have sex in semi-public for the excitement of potentially getting caught. Maybe the possibility of lashes creates even more excitement. If that's turning them on who are we to judge? To be fair, that would need consent, "beat us when you catch us", and should not be required by law.
- qubex 4y agoMy partner and I are in a heterosexual relationship. We often hold hands in public, sometimes we kiss, sometimes one or the other or both have arms around the others’ waist. Our ordinary behaviour could get us in trouble there? Fine, I wasn’t planning on going anyway. But why on earth would this disturb anybody? It’s not like people make out in public.
- yieldcrv 4y agoIn my experience, the [western] people that only agree with this do so when it doesn’t involve them. Or until it involves them.
- npteljes 4y agoOne night stands get a spotlight here but the crux of the issue is not the acts themselves; every society has its cultural norms and taboos. The main thing is how the society treats its rule-breakers, outliers, deviants, the people who don't fit. In the UK you're free to both practice and condemn premarital sex. In Quatar, the act could be punished by up to 100 lashes.
