I read that too, I think a quick reading of this gives the wrong idea though. In any other time period Russia had all of it's regular oil sales and it's actual private sector with no disruptions. I'm not sure they can survive as this quickly transformed military/energy economy where Putin holds all the cards, but I don't think Putin would have survived in any alternative.
- heneryville 4y agoYes, exactly. Also, this is comparing oil/gas revenue to war expenditure. While Russia is certainly making a huge profit on oil and gas, it is not all profit. Equally, there are many unrealized costs of their war, many of which cannot be fix by any amount of currency (e.g. accelerating demographic decline).
- rasz 4y agoBut those arent regular sales, prices went thru the roof and RU is making more than ever.
- yakak 4y agoThat's just trying to put a "positive spin" on what I said. Deduct regular sales, war costs and loss of IT off-shoring income and similar and Russia is making less than ever as an economy. They are all in on making enough from fake energy scarcity to offset a bunch of disasters. If energy consumers can curb global fossil fuel usage by 10% a year, goodbye failed Russian empire within 2 years? 3?
