DevOps Is a Failure
- bzmrgonz 4y agoActually, I understand that the move is towards devsecops!! Thats where the industry is moving towards!!
- mngnt 4y agoIn my experience at a BigCorp in a conservative part of Europe, Devops was a pure cargo cult and managerial buzzword. When I worked there, we were a regular ops teams, with a dev team in another country. They provided the software, our infra guys provided the hardware, we provided the support and operations management. Then our company adopted DevOps, which meant re-labelling the ops team as DevOps team and taking on some basic responsibilities. Nothing really changed, but now we were using DevOps so we were in lockstep with the competition, right?
- pjmlp 4y agoI can agree, in my experience just like with agile, the term is now completly misused. For most projects I have been involved since DevOps became a term, it is plain sysadmin tasks by another name.
- richliss 4y agoThe problem is that any new term needs to be trademarked and licensed for use so that it doesn't become misused by large consultancies repackaging what they do now as "the new thing" or misrepresented by others that are seeking to damage it compared to their "way". Martin Fowler described "Semantic Diffusion" to describe when a term doesn't mean anymore what was originally intended. DevOps in many cases suffers from it.
