I have something slightly better, with less of a chance of unwanted castration: Just make the bowl an area of low pressure so particles are less likely to be flung out of it. You could have a fan pulling air through a tube from the bowl, and then running it through some filters. I had this idea mostly for smell control - why remove all the air from the room instead of just dealing with smell where it is created?
