Although I believe ulimit doesn't account for the page cache (this is not important for browsers, but definitely for torrent clients — they can effectively eat up all your memory even if RSS + SHR never go above a few hundred megabytes). Also not sure how it works for shared memory (which is heavily used by modern browsers), which is definitely accounted for by cgroups (and limited by MemoryHigh/MemoryMax).
