GitHub CEO: I predict there will [soon] be no more code on your local computer
- Shadonototra 4y agohe is almost right, but you don't need to be a CEO to understand that the cloud is just an infrastructure be careful who you will trust and give your data if you are a company/government, you better build your own cloud and not rely on these unstable/unreliable entities i don't think github will be relevant within the next 10 years, they are loosing all their credibility with the gamification and people-ification of their platform i personally self host everything, and i keep local backups, including my workspace, all local i recommend everyone to do the same, and not give any power to these people, they will do as they please to achieve their goals, not yours! they already scanned everything for their Copilot feature, with a hidden consent, imagine what they could do next for their own interests! they already generate data/stats about you, your behavior, your taste (stars), and all is shared publicly, by default! privacy and security is important when you take such claims about the cloud, and Github failed at both of them! https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/github-attackers-stole-login-details-of-100k-npm-user-accounts/ https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/github-attack...
