“Ask app not to track” is great. Any solution to apple’s power that means this privacy improvement couldn’t have happened is a bad solution. That’s the issue here. The only way to defeat network effects (like facebook’s surveillance) is with other network effects (like apple’s app store). To be clear, I’d love a less powerful apple, but it has to be a solution that can still lead to users actual wants overriding a behemoth like facebook. I don’t know if that’s asking to have my cake and eat it too.
