It astonishes me that there are people who unironically believe that the American right has not moved further right than 2008.
They’ve made “any election we don’t win is, ipso facto”, fraudulent,” part of their core party doctrine. A view that will probably irreparably damage American democracy, but don’t worry, it’ll Own The Libs, and that’s what’s truly important.

- krapp 4y agoIt's been a trope among Republicans that Democrats primarily win through fraudulent means for years. Trump was accusing Hillary Clinton, the DNC and "liberal media" of trying to steal it from him back in in 2016. Republicans claimed ACORN stole the election for Obama (along with the Birther thing.) Bob Dole accused the "liberal media" of stealing the election for Bill Clinton. Also, this is the state with a pro-insurrection senator that sued another state for voting for Biden. The last four years have definitely been a hard shift right for what was already a solidly right-wing state.
- jfengel 4y ago"Being delusional" isn't a right-wing value. It's hard for them to move further "to the right" in any prior sense of "right". Over the past decades, the right wing has taken a psychotic break from reality. It's not a conservative value; it's just plain stupid. They have indeed gotten stupider over the years. I suppose you could say that "hating the left wing" is a right-wing value. If so, it's the only axis on which they could move further to the right. And horrifyingly, there is still room to move.
