UK plan to scrap cookie consent boxes will make it ‘easier to spy’ on web users
- donkarma 4y agothe cookie consent boxes were a complete disaster anyways, everyone doesn't care because everyone breaks the law by never adding a decline all button so it's just easier to accept all, tracking cookies should have just been outright banned.
- anigbrowl 4y agoI have seen plenty with 'decline all' buttons and I use them.
- g_p 4y agoThe other issue is sites break the law by ignoring the consent request anyway - many/most sites don't actually link the prompt to withholding delivery of cookies. This includes big name, big brand sites you've heard of as household names. The problem in GDPR right now is enforcement - there's not enough technical knowledge or visibility to enforce any of this through regulators, and there's no free market incentive to do it privately either (e.g. punitive damages).
- cloutchaser 4y agoSites shouldn’t even load google analytics without consent. Almost no website blocks GA before you give consent.
- hunglee2 4y agoa genuine Brexit benefit
- camillomiller 4y agoThe UK disregarding GDPR is not good news, but this title is BS. The cookie consent form didn’t make it at all harder to spy on users before.
- stuaxo 4y agoThey will be replaced with age verification on any site with comments or user generated content, those providers will know all those sites you visit.
- wdb 4y agoGoing to be quiet on these comments section or content sites when you need to proof age. How many people want to do that? Who wants to give the ID to proof age to just use a website? Would you for this website? I won’t
- dotcoma 4y agoThere you go, problem solved! ;)
- ilrwbwrkhv 4y agoYes please. For the love of God I have been waiting for this to happen. Need to get rid of this absolute nonsensical thing from the internet. And punish companies for selling data.
- djohnston 4y agoThank God, how many millions of hours has humanity wasted with these worthless dialogues?
