  Thanks for the link. What percentage of the population nowadays would do that? And would every climber feel ok about doing it? Fred was great as witnessed by the comments!

    Of people that climb professionally I would think at least 10% would do that just like he did. 1 in 10 seems like the right ratio of expecting someone gutsy enough in that population. I bet most, if not all, would do it with modern safety gear. Out of the general population... not many people would go up that first ladder. Haha.
